Collection: Fossils, Amber, Copal & Pseudomorphs
Here you will find my offerings of personally chosen Fossils, Pseudomorphs, Amber and Copal.
Each specimen selected for my store has been confirmed to be a genuine fossil, amber or copal specimen sourced only from proven, trusted suppliers.
Pseudomorphs are fascinating! That one mineral can turn itself into the form of another, much like a character in the second Terminator movie. These will be termed as (xxx) after (xxx) - the first being the new mineral, the second being the replaced mineral.
Amber is prehistoric fossilised tree resin around, having gone through many changes during the more than 10 million years it has been forming. It is harder and denser than Copal, and much coveted as a collector item as well as for jewellery. As a standard, Amber glows green under ultra-violet, however there is an Amber available (known as 'Indonesian Blue Amber' that has a vibrant blue glow under ultra-violet lighting.
Copal is fossilised tree resin aged less than 10 million, also referred to as 'Young Amber'. Copal is easily scratched and damaged. It can be melted easily by turpentine and is often burnt as incense for a beautiful, natural fragrance.
