Black Quartz Twin Points | Huanggang Mine, Inner Mongolia | Hydrothermally Etched

A nice twin point specimen with hydrothermal etching and a smooth imprint zone on one side.

Black Quartz is a variety of Smoky Quartz with a high aluminum content allowing natural (and artificial) irradiation to create the darkest, light absorbing specimens. Inner Mongolian Quartz is always interesting, with the hydrothermal conditions of the region creating heavily etched and layered, skeletal surfaces.
