Queensland Rhyolite with polished face: Australian Mineral Specimen
Queensland Rhyolite with polished face: Australian Mineral Specimen
Spherulitic Rhyolite (trade named Rainforest Jasper) from Mt Hay, SE Queensland.
This specimen is a natural, rough cut 'slab' with nicely polished face featuring a beautiful display of rainforest colours and spherical patterning.
Rhyolite is a volcanic rock, formed when the Mt Hay volcano erupted, around 120 million years ago. The eruption allowed silica-rich liquids to flow into cavities between other minerals such as Feldspar, Quartz and silicate rocks and then cool slowly, cementing them all together and forming this beautifully unique mineral.
Dimension: 185 grams
